- SCIAF 50th Anniversary Mass - 13/02/2015 -
One of Trinity High’s Lenten charities, The Scottish International Aid Fund (SCIAF), celebrated their 50th anniversary on Sunday by holding a mass in St.Columbkilles parish (Rutherglen). St.Columbkilles is where the organisation was founded back in 1965.
The Mass was led by the Bishop of Motherwell, Joseph Toal, retired Bishop of Aberdeen, Peter Moran, and Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh, Leo Cushley.
Trinity High sixth year students Roisin Doherty and Kieran Thomson both said bidding prayers at the service whilst Catherine McGrath and Erin Cowan both served as flag bearers. Leigh Syme, also S6, sung the psalm.
SCIAF now provides emergency aid and support to 16 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Here in Scotland they spread the word about the causes of global poverty and devote themselves to tackling the causes of such poverty.
The mass was also attended by the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, and Scottish Labour politician, Jim Murphy.
The service also featured African singers, an Indian choir, Latin American music plus hymns sung by the St.Columbkilles Choir.
Trinity High’s Lenten appeal, which begins shortly, will be filled with fundraising for not only SCIAF, but many other well deserving charities.
