The University of Glasgow bid for and was awarded 20 places for a foundation Pre-Medical Year Programme in March of this year (see attachments; Letter of Invite; Application Form). The Glasgow Medical School Access Programme will run for the first time in the 2017-18 academic year, beginning in September 2017. Successful performance in the pre-med programme will lead to direct entry to Year 1 of the Medicine degree.
The university has already targeted applicants who:
- participated in the Reach Programme, but did not gain entry to Medicine
- live in an SIMD 20 postcode area
- have care experience
- are disadvantaged by living in a remote and rural locale
By this targeted approach, the university has filled a number of the places with pupils attending schools targeted by the Reach Programme or meeting one of the other criteria.
However, they have places remaining on the course and are aware that some potential applicants within the schools in our Local Authority may not have applied already for consideration. Any pupils who feel they fit the criteria and have the profile for applying to Medicine, should apply for consideration now.
The deadline for application is Wednesday 14 June. Application forms can be downloaded from the attachment links above It is anticipated that interviews will be held in the week beginning Monday 19 June. Applicants will have the precise date, time and location confirmed, if invited for interview.
Completed applications should be e-mailed to: firstname.lastname@example.org
If you require any assistance in applying for this opportunity speak with Mr McCarthy ASAP.
The University of Aberdeen was also awarded 20 places for a pre-med year and is still recruiting. For information, please contact Sally Middleton on: email@example.com
